We are concerned with Architecture's capacity in contributing to equitable outcomes for all sections of society regardless of social setting. Taking this perspective, the practice has a natural inclination towards parts of society that do not normally engage with or have the attention of architecture. This means we undertake design and research with marginalised communities in broader society and in custodial settings.
Agenda
Building on Kevin's doctorate thesis that investigated the role of architecture in supporting a sense of citizenship, the research agenda now takes two vectors:
1 - How can Architecture contribute to Closing the Gap, and
2 - Questioning Architecture's fetish for "normalised environments" in prison design.
Always
Agency by Design acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we live and work.
